Avington Park is one of Hampshire's most extraordinary wedding venues - a Grade I listed Georgian stately home set in 150 acres of historic parkland on the banks of the River Itchen, just moments from the city of Winchester. With a history stretching back to 961 AD and once home to King Charles II and his mistress Nell Gwynn, this is a venue that carries centuries of celebration within its walls.

The current house, built in 1690 purely for entertaining, remains privately owned and retains every bit of the grandeur and intimacy that makes it so special. The sweeping formal rooms, the glittering chandeliers, the Georgian conservatories, the rose garden, and the quiet meadows alongside the River Itchen - Avington Park feels like stepping into a different era, and weddings here have a timeless, cinematic quality that I absolutely love to capture on film. It is truly one of my favourite places to film a wedding in the entire world. I love it & got engaged here myself in the onsight accomodation recently.

I've filmed at Avington Park numerous times and it remains one of my favourite venues to work at in Hampshire. Every space here has genuine character - the kind that no amount of interior design can manufacture, because it comes from three centuries of history and use.

The light through the tall Georgian windows in the ceremony rooms is beautiful at almost any time of day. The parkland and River Itchen provide an extraordinary backdrop for outdoor couple footage - especially in the late afternoon when the light drops through the trees and catches the water. And the contrast between the formal grandeur of the house and the natural, unhurried beauty of the grounds gives the day a visual variety that keeps the film interesting from the first frame to the last.

The rose garden is particularly wonderful in summer - one of those intimate, enclosed spaces where couples and guests relax completely and the most genuine moments happen entirely naturally. As a filmmaker, those are the moments I live for.
